Distance Learning - Thursday 4th March '21

Oat the Goat

Aanya is one of our three students on campus during alert level 3. She has been completing her distance learning tasks here at school and getting plenty of digital practice. Today Aanya watched the Oat the Goat video, drew a picture on her iPad of the goat then wrote a story to go with it. Aanya is practicing inserting pictures, using background colours and text boxes and is beginning to add things to her blog. Lots of learning, awesome work Aanya.

Scientific Friday - Making Sime

On Friday Scientist Pryde came to Room 7 and we did chemistry by making slime. Chemistry is putting two or more ingredients together to make a whole new thing. We used food colouring, glue, borax and water to make slime but it didn't work. We are not 100% sure why it didn't work but we think it is because the ingredients were out of date. Have you got any good slime recipes that we could try?

Get Set Go!

Sports Coach

On Wednesday we did some balancing. When the coach said, "stop" we had to try balance on one leg with airplane arms. We sit down and listened to the coach, the coach picked someone to be the tagger. He gave them a pool noodle and the tagger had to run and tag everybody. When the person got tagged they had to stand like a starfish. To be back in the game, someone had to crawl through your legs. The tagging game was my favourite game because I liked tagging people.

Life Education

Room 7 had their second session with Harold and Nicole today. The students got an opportunity to talk to Harold's puppet friends about their worries. We are getting good at sharing our feelings in the different colour zones. The blue zone is sad, yellow zone is worried, green zone is happy and the red zone is angry. When we have identified what zone we are in, we work together to find ways back to the green zone. This looks different for each student.

We also had a think about if we got lost and what we would do. We talked about our addresses and how it's important to know them so we know where to go if we do get lost. We are writing letters to our parents and are going to send our letters to our parents using our addresses. This ties in with our Inquiry topic, safety.

Making Musical Instruments

Todays creating challenge was to make an instrument. This is part of our inquiry about sound. Miss Pryde gave us a pile of old boxed and tubes then she let us go on an adventure hunt for anything that could help us make an instrument. We found lots of noisy things. We found leaves that go crunch, acorns that can make a rattling noise, sticks that can make lots of different types of noises depending on size and how you use them. We all came up with some very different ideas for musical instruments. We are a talented group of musicians.

Egg Carton Creations

Today Room whitu did some creating. We used egg cartons, eyes, pipe cleaners, pompoms and glue to make insects or animals. Three of our brave boys chose to make crocodiles which after a lot of hard work turned out amazing. Some other creatures that are features are caterpillars, lady bugs, whales, bunnies, butterflies and turtles. How clever are we? What would you have made?

Learning From Home - Vili

During this unusual time, our kiddos have been learning from home and what wonderful learning is being done. Vili is working his way through his own challenge sheet. For this challenge, he had to find something in his house that started with every letter of the alphabet. How awesome is his bubble for doing such a wonderful job? He couldn't find anything in his house that starts with an X, can you think of a word that starts with X?
Awesome learning Vili.

Library Forts

At the library room 7 read a book about how to make forts. We worked in groups of 5 to make our own forts. We had to work as a team. We used sheets, pillows, chairs and tables. One of our groups turned their fort into a library, another group chose to make a boy's room and girl's room. The final group made two rooms, one with pillows to make the ground comfortable. This is the room where you read softcover books. The other bedroom was empty and was to read hardcover books. The reason for this is because we have a rule that hardcover books have to be on the floor or on a table in order to protect the spine. This group also incorporated the library computers into their fort as their office. We thought this was pretty cool. All three groups worked wonderfully together and had such wonderful ideas. We Love the Library

We love library time! Our library has lots of fun books and so many fun places to read them. Our teachers always reads us a book at the start of library time then we get to go pick our own to take back to class. What is your favourite place to read? We really like reading outside.

Maritime Museum

On Friday, room 7 went to the Maritime Museum with room 2 and room 3. We learnt all about adventuring and exploring and what that looked like back in the 'olden days'. We got to see lots of boats, both big and small. Lee showed us some of the things you would take on a boat when you go on a big trip. We thought it was pretty cool how he talked about the Pacific Islands and how they found New Zealand.

Flying Fives

Today was our first day at flying fives for 2020. We go every Thursday and we love it. There is something for everyone and we never get bored. Sometimes we play by ourselves, sometimes we play with people and sometimes we just work alongside one another. Whatever we are doing, we are having plenty of fun and learning plenty too. What is something you enjoy playing with?

The Santa Claus Show

The Santa Claus Show

On Thursday we went to the magical Pumphouse on a bus. We went there to watch the magical show, it was amazing. Kelly wanted lots and lots of presents. Holly just wanted a white balloon for the girl who did not get a balloon. My favourite part was when the balloons all fell down.

The Christmas Show

Yesterday room 2 went on a trip. We went to the Pumphouse Theatre. The show was made by Tim Bray. We went there by bus. It was like 100 degrees in the bus. The show we were watching was the Santa Claus show and it was hilarious. My favourite part was when the elf picked up the papers but the papers kept falling out of his arms.

The Santa Claus Show

On Thursday after morning tea we tucked in our shirts and we lined up outside for the bus. We were waiting to go to the Pumphouse! When we got to the Pumphouse we sat down on the chairs. At the start Elfy checked the list. The first rule was no electronics when the movie is on. Rule two is always sit down or you will get lost. Only stand up if your mum or teacher says you can stand up. My third favourite part was when Santa showed Kelly Santa's toy work shop.

Lost Shoes

Room 2 love poems. Every week we do a different poem. After losing a lot of shoes at school over the past week we decided a poem about losing shoes was a good idea. First Miss Pryde read us the poem. She sometimes reads it in a silly voice which we think is funny. Then Miss Pryde picks one child from each reading group to read the poem to the class. We get to pretend to be the teacher. After we have listened to the readers read the poem we make actions to the poem. We love making actions to the poems. This one was really funny. We took off our shoes and hid them for real. We pretended to look in the house, the car, the cupboards, and the shelves. We didn't find them there. We found them walking by themselves. Look at the videos below of us doing the actions to our poems. Hine-Sky and Sahara did a really good job of reading the poem. They were both very nervous.
