The last few weeks Room 7 has been learning a range of new and different games, with a focus on card games. This helps us with number recognition, fine motor skills, social skills and is just a lot of fun. Below is some photos of our students learning through play.
Amarley and Ahea worked together to complete a puzzle. Later in the afternoon Rawiri joined in to help out.
Two groups played Go Fish. We focused on waiting our turn, listening to others when it's their turn and identifying numbers to 10. Next time we might use harder numbers.
One group played a new game called memory. Our focus was taking turns and paying attention to the numbers people were flipping over and trying to remember where they were. In the photo below you see Khit holding up a pair of fives, he was very excited.
Isaac and Ziv took to the whiteboards. They took the roll by writing down all the names of the students that were in class and they wrote down all the class rules. Awesome writing skills guys!
Freedom and Aryah played Pop up Pete, a wonderful game for fine motor skills. It was a bit of a shock to the whole class everytime Pete popped up.
What are your favourite games to play at home with your whanau?
