Flying Fives - Learning through play

Rawiri had a blast this afternoon playing with the blocks. He was playing dominos. He started out with a long line but by the end of the day he had tried many different ways to make his dominos more elaborate. He attempted a small circle which at first didn't work so he moved all the blocks closer together and was able to make it work.

The next thing he attempted was dominos that turned a corner, in the video you can see him counting down and starting them off.

At the end (which was missed on video) you see him walk over to see if it worked and when he realised it did, he was very pleased with himself, he even clapped.

One of the final things Rawiri tried was using a range of different sized blocks to make an extra long domino work. You will notice in the video he uses all the small blocks at the very end.

It was awesome to see Rawiri trying and trying again. It was also cool to see the students that stopped by to have a look, play momentarily or offer to help.

Meet Room 7 - 2021

Welcome to the students of room 7. We'll tell you a bit about ourselves. We are smart, kind and helpful year 2 students at Panmure Bridge. We are loving our digital learning and love when Miss Pryde reads 'Fantastic Mr Fox' to us after lunch. We can say hello in lots of different languages and we are very excited to learn more. Follow our journey of 2021 to see what we get up to.

Scientific Friday - Making Sime

On Friday Scientist Pryde came to Room 7 and we did chemistry by making slime. Chemistry is putting two or more ingredients together to make a whole new thing. We used food colouring, glue, borax and water to make slime but it didn't work. We are not 100% sure why it didn't work but we think it is because the ingredients were out of date. Have you got any good slime recipes that we could try?

Get Set Go!

Sports Coach

On Wednesday we did some balancing. When the coach said, "stop" we had to try balance on one leg with airplane arms. We sit down and listened to the coach, the coach picked someone to be the tagger. He gave them a pool noodle and the tagger had to run and tag everybody. When the person got tagged they had to stand like a starfish. To be back in the game, someone had to crawl through your legs. The tagging game was my favourite game because I liked tagging people.

Buddy Reading

Every Tuesday after lunch room 7 does buddy reading with room 5. We like buddy reading because the big kids read us funny stories like 'Captain Underpants' and sometimes they read us jokes from their joke books. Today we read them our poem called 'Bugs! Bugs!' We only started the poem yesterday so it was good practice for us and when we got stuck the big kids were able to help us.

Story writing with adjectives

Room 7 is learning all about adjectives and how we can make our story sound more exciting by adding adjectives (describing words). We brainstormed adjectives describing the monster then we wrote a story about the monster. Tomorrow we are going to try and write our own.

Life Education

Room 7 had their second session with Harold and Nicole today. The students got an opportunity to talk to Harold's puppet friends about their worries. We are getting good at sharing our feelings in the different colour zones. The blue zone is sad, yellow zone is worried, green zone is happy and the red zone is angry. When we have identified what zone we are in, we work together to find ways back to the green zone. This looks different for each student.

We also had a think about if we got lost and what we would do. We talked about our addresses and how it's important to know them so we know where to go if we do get lost. We are writing letters to our parents and are going to send our letters to our parents using our addresses. This ties in with our Inquiry topic, safety.
